During the spring of 1911, the Court of Justice of Florence sentenced Giuseppe Prezzolini, editor of the peri- odical «La Voce», to ten months’ imprisonment because of an article in which he had denounced the vicious life which affected the most part of Italian Cavalry officers. The sentence prompted scholars and citizens to defend the journalist. A committee was founded in Turin, in order to publish a special issue with declara- tions by the most famous names holding Prezzolini in high esteem: the young Longhi was involved to make ready that issue. Moving from this viewpoint, the essay reconsiders some other facts concerning Longhi’s academic career before 1911..
