Pittori molisani in Abruzzo e zone limitrofe nei secoli XVII e XVIII: legami artistici e rapporti tra botteghe
Marco Vaccaro
The essay analyzes the activity of some molisan painters in Abruzzo and through the sheep tracks that connected the region with Molise, Puglia and other neighboring territories, highlighting the importance of these connections for the circulation of artists and works, and of centers such as Pescocostanzo and Scanno, headquarters of thriving herding activities. Several unpublished works by Benedetto Brunetti are presented, proposing to identify his beginnings precisely in Pescocostanzo. Giambattista Gamba’s career is therefore analysed, taking place mainly in Abruzzo, starting from the first known works, carried out in connection with Francesco Antonio Borzillo, and crossing his own activity with that of the Lombard plasterers and architects Giovan Battista Gianni and Francesco Ferradini, up to at the handover with his son Paolo Gamba, who later became a follower of Solimena in Naples.
