Disegni veneziani per ornamenti per la «meraviglia del gran cancello»: nota sulle fonti e sulla fortuna critica della cancellata in ferro battuto nella cappella del Santissimo Sacramento in Santa Maria del Colle a Pescocostanzo
Floriana Conte
The ornate wrought iron gate of the Chapel of the Sacrament in the Basilica of Santa Maria del Colle in Pescocostanzo features foliage and secular figures. This design was adapted by local craftsmen from prints by Odoardo Fialetti reproducing drawings by the almost unknown Venetian set designer Polifilo Zancarli, who is better known for his prints of ornaments designed for carriages and furniture. The initial critical success of the gate passed through a moment of renewed appreciation for wrought iron used in outdoor and furniture application. This renaissance was led by figures such as Ugo Ojetti and the erudite doctor Gaetano Sabatini who were central to the forge of «Dedalo» between 1907 and 1925.
