Il feudo di Pescolanciano e la sua dimora castellana: una residenza fortificata dell’alto Molise. Arte e architettura della cappella gentilizia
Ettore d’Alessandro di Pescolanciano
Through unpublished documents, the essay traces the history of the feud of Pescolanciano, in Molise, and of the d’Alessandro family that was its feudal lord from 1576. In particular, the focus is on the castle and the embellishment and renovation works commissioned by the family. The castle, which was home to an important art collection and an eighteenth-century terracotta manufactory, housed a breeding farm of prized horses, trained for jumping, of great renown in the eighteenth century. These interests of the family are reflected in the volume written by Giuseppe d’Alessandro in 1711, entitled Arte del Cavalcare, which was the most famous eighteenth-century treatise on the subject.
