La corrispondenza privata di Federico Zuccari. Lettere a Sebastiano Caccini
Roberto Tartaglia
The article, focused on Federico Zuccari’s correspondence, sheds new light on both his life and career, by providing a remarkable cross-section of his public and private dimension. Thanks to a review of the letters to his friend Sebastiano Caccini, now preserved at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, it has been possible to rediscover six letters which, although mentioned in the pivotal essay by Maria Giulia Aurigemma in 1995, are still unpublished. This research aims not only at showing further details on Zuccari’s private sphere, such as the relationship with his wife Francesca Genga, their household economics and the essential role played by Caccini during Federico’s periods of absence from Rome, but also at corroborating through documentary evidence some chronological aspects of his biography, as in the case of the frescoes realized for Barbara Massilla in Recanati.
