La quadreria Camuccini: genesi e dispersione di una collezione nella Roma ottocentesca
Pier Ludovico Puddu
The contribution traces and summarizes the salient moments in the history of the Camuccini picture gallery, established in the early Nineteenth century by the Roman art restorer and dealer Pietro Camuccini, and subsequently dismembered by his heir Giovanni Battista Camuccini starting from 1855. Through the examination of unpublished sources, the essay reconstructs the main commercial and collecting strategies employed by Camuccini and his relations with the Roman aristocracy, thus investigating some important aspects of the history of collecting and the art market. Furthermore, proposals are made for the identification of various paintings, of which the respective provenances and Nineteenth-century movements can be traced.
