La Santa Teresa d’Avila in gloria di Massa Lubrense: una proposta per Luca Giordano in penisola sorrentina
Gianpasquale Greco
This essay shows the Saint Teresa of Avila in glory, in the church of Saint Teresa, located in Massa Lubrense (Naples), occasionally mentioned but never analyzed by scholars. This study, by considering the stylistic qualities of the painting, by making use of the documents of the recent restoration, and by crossing all the documentary attestations available with the bibliography and sources, tries to investigate the historical circumstances that gave rise to the work, together with the events of construction of the church itself. The study concludes the analysis with a comparison of the appropriate Teresian iconography and, while not excluding a material contribution by Nicola Malinconico, proposes the attribution of the painting to Luca Giordano and dates its creation to the early eighteenth century.
