This essay examines the history of projected photography in art-historical teaching at the Accademia di Belle
Arti di Brera between the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries. Drawing on unpublished archival
sources and a surviving corpus of 352 glass slides, it reconstructs two successive teaching collections —
associated respectively with Giulio Carotti (1902–1922) and Evangelina Tea (1922–1956) — analysing their
material features, provenance, and cataloguing history. The study combines a philological reconstruction
of the didactic materials with an examination of their social and medial dimensions, shedding light on the
role of projected photography as a transformative tool in art-historical pedagogy.
