Un nouveau livre sur Paolo Uccello
Neville Rowley
Review of Mauro Minardi’s extensive, and richly illustrated monograph on Paolo Uccello (1397-1475), one of the foremost painters of the early Renaissance in Florence. The author discusses analytically Uccello’s catalogue and considers his oeuvre within the context of his contemporaries (Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Masaccio, Angelico, Piero della Francesca), highlighting Uccello’s original artistic personality imbued at the same time with irrational late-Gothic eccentricities and modern perspective obsessions.
