Una galleria tascabile: un libro di ricordi di Giuseppe Bezzuoli e altri quaderni di appunti e disegni
Valentina Frascarolo
An unpublished sketchbook belonged to the Florentine painter Giuseppe Bezzuoli (Firenze 1788-1855), today preserved in the GDSU of Florence, contains various copies from ancient sculptures gathered during the reorganization of the «Real Galleria degli Uffizi» promoted by the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo. Datable to the second decade of the nineteenth century, this little notebook represents a lively evidence of the daily study of the ancient masterpieces carried out at the reformed Accademia del Disegno of Florence. At the same time some jottings reveal also an early interest in the sixteenth and seventeenth century art, in particular of the Florentine school, and in the copy from nature. By comparison with other Bezzuoli’s sketchbooks this article aims to explore the artist’s creative process mainly based on the elaboration of the sketches recorded on these pages.
