L’antologia cartacea di Alberigo Carlini: appunti e disegni di un frate pittore tra Roma e la Toscana nel Settecento
Luisa Berretti
This article focuses on the activity as draughtsman of the Franciscan monk Alberigo Carlini, who spent his life painting canvases and frescoes for Franciscan churches and convents in Tuscany and Rome. After a period of training in Ottaviano Dandini’s workshop in Florence, he moved to Rome to study with Sebastiano Conca. Carlini’s drawings, many of them executed during his stay in Rome, are gathered in volumes preserved in the Museo Civico of Pescia (Tuscany). This so rich and almost wholly unpublished ensemble – including studies from the Roman antiquity, architectural and anatomical drawings, preparatory sketches for paintings, religious, allegorical etchings and engravings – shows perfectly the academic training of a 18th century Italian artist.
