The Pompidou Mobile is an itinerant pavilion created by the director of the Centre Pompidou-Paris, Alain
Seban, with the aim of becoming a new museological tool for the democratization of culture. In order to
reach a geographical and social distribution of art, the Pompidou Mobile had been traveling throughout
small towns and villages in France to exhibit masterpieces from the Parisian collection. Despite its early
shutdown, the project underlines the growing interest in the ethical and social role of museums by turning to increasingly local strategies.
