«Una galleria famosa e condizionale per la cultura italiana»: Geno Pampaloni, Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti e Giuseppe Raimondi per la Galleria d’arte contemporanea Olivetti di Ivrea

This essay traces back the story of the commission composed by Geno Pampaloni, Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and Giuseppe Raimondi, which was entrusted with purchasing works of contemporary Italian art for the Olivetti company with the aim of creating a public art gallery in Ivrea. The commission was active between 1954 and 1958. By using various published and unpublished sources, the author identifies the theoretical and practical guidelines that governed the gallery project, unveils the history of some of the purchases Olivetti made in the 1950s, and outlines the multiple relationships established and consolidated through the activities of the commission´s three protagonists.
