Matelica (MC) is one of the beautiful small towns of Central Italy which were seriously hit by the quake of the 30th October 2016. Although there are no collapsed buildings, the damages are extremely serious: not even a church is safe, neither the main historical buildings of the town, like the City Hall and the Museo Piersanti. The first thing that really strikes you entering San Francesco, Sant’Agostino and the other churches is the plaster of the sculptures crashed down everywhere. Works of art inside are at high risk and should be removed as soon as possible. There is a project to recover them in a temporary museum, hopefully to be opened soon.
