La chiesa di San Salvatore a Campi
e il suo allestimento medievale
Alessandro Delpriori
The church of San Salvatore in Campi collapsed on the evening of the 26th October 2016, due to the violent earthquakes which struck Umbria and Marche. The interior of San Salvatore was an extraordinary document for the study of original medieval church interiors, and an authentic antology of painting in Valnerina from the fourteenth up to the sixteenth century. The totality of frescoes on the church walls showed the
evolution of local painting from the workshop of the Master of Cesi up to Nicola di Ulisse da Siena and to the painters of the Sparapane family of Norcia. Let’s hope that works of restoration and modern technologies will somewhat recover this rich context which today appears completely lost.
