Aspetti teorici e dimensione pratica nell’attività di Lorenzo Lotto
Francesco De Carolis
This paper aims at analysing materials and processes used by Lotto to realise his paintings, starting from the records written on his account book, well known as Libro di spese diverse. At the same time, the present research considers his remarks about art creation provided from his letters sent to Consorzio della Misericordia, which commissioned him the drawings of the tarsias for the choir of the church of Santa Maria in Bergamo. In this study Lorenzo Lotto comes to light as a painter deep interested in all steps concerning the project and the production of paintings. Indeed, many times Lotto refers to his own production of varnish and colours for oil painting, and in more than one occasion he complains of delay in which his patrons sent him their references about the development of his drawings.
